Other Faiths
At Our Lady of Muswell, we understand the importance of learning about World Faiths. We live in a multi-faith society and our school community is made of up of families of different faiths or of no faith. We want our children to develop their knowledge and understanding of other religions and respect each other’s beliefs. At OLM we study Judaism and Islam. We also learn about other religious celebrations throughout the year such as Diwali.
Judaism
In Nursery, the children learned about the Jewish festival of lights. They learned about the Menorah, they lit the candles, played with dreidels and cooked latkes.
As part of Judaism week Year 6 carried out their own Tashlich ceremony in the Methodist gardens. Casting off their old sins by throwing breadcrumbs into water.
Reception made their own handprint menorahs and talked about the significance of the 8 candles in their RE lesson on Hanukkah
Diwali
In October, Early years learned all about Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights.
The children made their own Diya lamps. They mixed their own salt dough and then painted their lamps and decorated with lots of glitter.
Reception also used coloured beads to create their own Rangoli pattern
